Love Notes From the Neon City

A Friday night in the city is a new world of possibility. You never know who you’ll meet, who you’ll forget or who you’ll keep. The smiles are earned; we’ve worked our fingers to the bone. This rounds for you… all the dark; sweating rooms we’ve given ourselves to.

I only feel at home on a neon tinted dance floor. Music turned too loud to speak, an out of body experience to a 4/4 beat. There’s something illuminatingly bright about Friday night at 9 PM like the whole world could turn around and we’d finally find who we always should have been.

Like, love is just another bar on the list, and we’re just two hours from finding ourselves face to face with our future. Like, for once the stars are brighter than the Sun, a new beginning just begun.

It’s 11:30 PM and the girls are just coming in.

All dressed to the nines, heels sharp enough to cut a heart.

Mines a frequent volunteer. Making best friends in the bathroom line, exchanging beauty tips and cigarettes, a whole room full of opposites-

Not to rush but I know I could do with a little more touch. I mean not to rush

but the beat is mixing colours with all these heartbeats, and I’m seeing new versions of us, red lipstick- like a target.

Locked eyes with a stranger, seeing how close you can get before you fall in. An artist of imagination, I barely know you and I’m falling in.

Barely know you and I’m falling in.

Footsteps falling from the floor to the car, to the next spot on the next block.

The tab’s sky-high, but so are these hopes.

I mean we’re all just neon lights and the night’s a kaleidoscope.
